Causes of Epilepsy in Pets: A seizure can be caused by a lot of things, like being exposed to a toxic substance, a tumor, a liver or kidney failure, low blood sugar, an autoimmune inflammatory disease, or an infectious disease. However, frequent, repeated seizure episodes are called epilepsy, and it is thought to be a genetic disorder in many dogs.

Die Ictal Phase – Während der Mittelphase der Seizure können die Symptome unterschiedlich sein, von leichten neurologischen Veränderungen (wie einer verzerrten Sprache, einem Lächeln auf der Lippe und leichtem Schwitzen) bis hin zu einem allgemeinen Seizure, bei dem die Person ohnmächtig wird und starke twitching, shaking, convulsing und/oder paddling auftritt. In dieser Zeit kann ein Tier auch unkontrolliert urinieren, defekieren oder saliven.
3. Die post-ictal Phase: In der Zeit nach einem Seizure sind Haustiere häufig sehr verwirrt. You may feel confusion, pacing, salivation, restlessness, aggression or temporary blindness.
When your pet has a seizure, the best way to help it is to clear the area around it so it doesn’t hurt itself by bumping into something.
